Masterclass: Safeguarding Adults at Risk Level 3 - NHS Level 4

This one day masterclass, facilitated by Christine Moody, Associate Facilitator, The Athena Programme, will enable you to focus in detail, on the various forms of abuse that can take place and develop a better understanding of who is an adult at risk, who the potential abusers are, and the actions you must take where abuse is disclosed (safeguarding thresholds).

This course examines the concept of vulnerability and the safeguarding of adults at risk in a variety of situations – some of which are regulated under the Care Standards Act 2000.

Our course will help you in analysing legislation and regulatory frameworks surrounding interagency collaboration including The Care Act 2014, the Care and Support Statutory Guidance, Mental Capacity Act 2005 Code of Practice, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Safeguarding Adult Reviews.

This course aims to increase your knowledge of identifying and reporting actual or potential abuse and initiating formal investigation procedures.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Understand roles and responsibilities of others under Safeguarding Adults at Risk Procedures (Care Act 2014).
  • Understand the adult abuse investigation process from concern to referral, decision making meeting, protection plan and outcome meeting (Section 42).
  • Understanding of internal and external referral pathways e.g. meeting structures and timescales.
  • Identify and understand the barriers to reporting and effective information sharing.
  • Understanding the emotional aspect of making a decision for another who lacks capacity.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the main principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and best interest decision making.
  • Understand the requirements of the Liberty Protection Safeguards (LIPS).
  • Other safeguarding arrangements e.g. MAPPA and MARAC, National Child and Domestic Abuse Disclosure schemes, the Prevent Agenda, Serious Adult Reviews.
  • Understand the involvement of Court of Protection and Lasting Powers of Attorney in relation to safeguarding.

The Facilitator for this course, Christine Moody, is a highly experienced senior manager with a track record of delivering sustained improvements in health and social care. She currently has a range of independent roles with specialist areas of expertise including implementation of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding adults at risk. Christine is an experienced trainer with a creative results-orientated approach who receives excellent feedback on her ability to engage with people and organisations to help them achieve measurable and realistic outcomes.
